The Larry Bird Museum Defiantly filled with joy an thousands of fans, Thursday marks the official opening of the Larry Bird Museum located inside the Terre Haute Convention Center. It was a remarkable event in which there were lots of emotions, memories of the past, and a great pride in having such a talented sport association icon.
Larry Bird, fresh from Indiana State University and an exciting new face in the Boston Celtics team formation greeted the crowd in his unassuming demeanor. Bird is a man notorious for his extremely introvert personality; thus, being on the stage to share words that bore into people’s souls appeared awkward. “For a long time, they have loved and respected me and I in turn have loved and respected them,” Bird said, in what is perhaps the first emotive encounter the television presenter is known to have shared with fans.

Featuring speeches given by local authorities, ex-teammates, and loyal fans; the ceremony was not just the celebration of Bird’s achievements but the acknowledgment of his significance for the city of Terre Haute. The Larry Bird Museum showcases a number of jerseys, trophies, and personal articles used and owned by Larry Bird that can be considered relics in their own right. All the displays are provided to depict Bird, including one that focuses on his college years at Indiana State University, when he took the Sycamores to the NCAA Championship in 1979, and his 13 years with the Boston Celtics, during which he won three NBA championships and claimed the MVP three times.
Bird, who has never been shy about voicing his opinions or cracking jokes, did not fail to make a small observation about the honours Terre Haute has been Bestowing on him over the years. Bird thinks for a moment, then says: “I got a little street named after me and now I have a statue all the way out there, and now a museum right here.” This comment received lots of laughter and applause from the attendees. “I believe Terre Haute deserves that sentiment, no thank you for now folks; let me help you understand how much I appreciate the city and all its residents. ”
